The Montford Point Marine Association (MPMA) is a military veteran's organization, founded to memorialize the legacy of the first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps. The first African American Marines were trained at Camp Montford Point, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, from 1942 to 1949.

2009 MPMA QUEEN

Ms. Lynette M. Clifton

It is truly an honor to have run for and ultimately being crowned the Montford Point Marine Association’s National Queen for 2009-2010.  It is a privilege to be able to give back to the community.  I am proud to assist young adults in their quest for higher educational dreams by helping the Association raise funds for scholarships

This organization holds family history for me.  I stand in the shadow of one of my heroes, my grandfather, President Emeritus Chapter 10, MGySgt. Willie Michael Woods USMC who served from 1943-1974. His dedication to the Marine Corps and his belief in the accomplishments of Montford Point Marine Association lead me to become a member of this great veterans organization and do all that I can to support its efforts.
